Erling Haaland has been a Manchester City player since the summer, when he transferred from Borussia Dortmund. However, there were more interested parties. One of them was Bayern Munich. The president of the Bavarian club spoke about how close the most successful club in Germany was to acquiring the Norwegian star.
Borussia Dortmund made a great investment in 2020. For only 20 million euros they brought in the talented sharpshooter Erling Haaland. He made a great name for himself in a Red Bull Sazburg jersey and was coveted by the whole of Europe.
But the Norwegian was not surprised. Instead of making the big jump to one of the biggest clubs, he chose Dortmund, where he got a taste of a better league and tested his skills against better opponents than he had in Austria.
With Borussia, Haaland won the German Cup, plus he was the Champions League top scorer in the 2020/21 season. He scored goal after goal, was a key man and his numbers are incredible – 89 games, 86 goals and 23 assists.
By the summer, it was clear he would leave the club. But there was no telling where he might go. There was a move to rival Bayern or to England. Even giants from Spain were interested. In the end, however, he chose Manchester City, who paid 60 million euros for him.
He started his engagement at the Etihad Stadium in spectacular fashion. So far, he has played 18 competitive games with a record of 23 goals and 3 assists. So for now, he confirms that even the Premier League is not good enough to not put up great numbers.
However, now Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has commented on his potential summer arrival. “Haaland is interesting for every top club in the world. Next to Manchester United, we had the best chance of getting him in the summer,” Goal quotes him as saying.
According to Transfermarkt, the value of the Norwegian sharpshooter is now estimated at 170 million euros. If he leaves Manchester City one day, it could be the most expensive transfer of all time.
