Haaland and Mbappé? Only to Real in Spain, Barca can’t afford them, says La Liga boss
Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland are seen as the future rulers of football, replacing Ronaldo and Messi. Logically, they are thus associated with the arrivals of two of the biggest clubs in the world, Real Madrid and Barcelona. But only one club can afford them.
Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland are seen as the future rulers of football, replacing Ronaldo and Messi. Logically, they are thus associated with the arrivals of two of the biggest clubs in the world, Real Madrid and Barcelona. But only one club can afford them.
At first glance, it seems that the departure of Mbappé or Haaland is not on the agenda. The French striker has extended his contract with PSG, showing that he doesn’t want to leave Paris.
Haaland, on the other hand, only arrived at Manchester City in the summer and has been scoring one goal after another. Plus, he’s in the Premier League, which many believe is the best league in the world. But both players know well that if they want global prestige and to win the Ballon d’Or or have a better chance of the Champions League, Real Madrid or Barcelona is the way to go.
From 2008 until now, only Real Madrid and Barcelona players have won the Ballon d’Or. Apart from Ronaldo and Messi, Luka Modric and Karim Benzema have also won. Moreover, Los Blancos have won the Champions League five times out of the last eight editions.
Barcelona? No, just Real Madrid
It is thus logical that players like Mbappé or Haaland will constantly be linked with joining Spanish big clubs. But at the moment, the road only leads to the capital.
The president of La Liga, Javier Tebas, was a guest on El Chirinquito. The 60-year-old boss let it be known that he would love to welcome both stars to La Liga so that the Spanish competition can once again compete in prestige with the Premier League.
“I hope it happens that they both play in La Liga. But both players can only play at Real Madrid because Barcelona’s economic situation will not allow the club to bring in such players,” Tebas confirmed the Blaugranas’ continuing poor financial situation.
He also added that a lot of things would have to change at the Catalan big club to make this possible in the future. “Neither this season nor the next one. It is impossible,” the La Liga boss recalled the ongoing problems with the salary cap and financial fair-play.
