Arsenal legend Ian Wright has expressed his disappointment that his former club did not decide to sign Dominic Solanke before the striker headed to rival Tottenham. Solanke, who had been one of the hottest transfer targets this summer, ended up joining the London rivals and Arsenal lost the chance of an exciting signing.

  • Ian Wright is disappointed that Arsenal have shown no interest in Dominic Solanke
  • Solanke cost Tottenham £65m
  • Wright still believes Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli have the potential to lead Arsenal to success

Dominic Solanke shone in a Bournemouth jersey last season, netting over 20 goals for the club. It’s no wonder then that he has been on the radar of several leading clubs. In the end, it was Tottenham who decided to invest £65 million in this talented striker. It secured his services as a replacement for Harry Kane, who left the club.

Ian Wright, who is known for his outspoken views on Arsenal’s transfer activity, admitted that he would be happy if his former club showed interest in this talented striker. Speaking on The Overlap podcast, Wright said: ‘If they signed Solanke, I wouldn’t have the slightest problem with it. I think he would be a good signing.”

Despite these words, however, Wright still believes in the offensive strength of the current Arsenal team. He believes that Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli have the potential to score the goals that Arsenal need.

Although last season their performances were not always optimal. Wright believes that if both players can reach their best form, Arsenal could once again be one of the main favourites for the title.

Last season, Arsenal finished the Premier League as the second most productive team. Only Manchester City scored more goals. Wright stresses that the key to success will be for Jesus and Martinelli to get back to the level they have shown in the past. “If they get back to where we know they can be, they can bring us the goals we need, ” Wright added.

Arsenal targeting the title

Arsenal have focused on strengthening their defence and midfield this summer, bringing in players like Riccardo Calafiori. However, Wright suggested that the club should consider further strengthening if it wants to truly compete with Manchester City. “They need to have a better bench, ” Wright pointed to the importance of a wider and better quality squad to handle a tough title challenge.

Ahead of the upcoming season, Arsenal are targeting one thing. He wants to break a run of two second places and end a Premier League title wait that has lasted since the 2003/2004 season.

Arsenal fans will be anxious to see whether their team can match the best and whether Wright’s concerns about the lack of breadth in the squad will prove justified. The possible arrival of another quality striker could be a key step towards Arsenal finally lifting the Premier League championship trophy.

We will be able to get a picture of where Arsenal are at the moment this Saturday. The Gunners, in the first round of the Premier League, will welcome an erratic Wolves team that finished 14th last season.
