A backup like a thunderbolt. Ilkay Gündoğan’s agent showed up at FC Barcelona’s offices a few days ago to meet with the club’s sporting management. The German midfielder is out of contract in June and is a realistic option to strengthen the centre of the Catalan big club’s midfield.

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gündoğan is a viable option for Barcelona to strengthen the midfield in the summer. The player’s agent appeared at the Blaugranas offices on Thursday, where he met with the sporting management team consisting of Mateu Alemany, Jordi Cruyff, Jordi Masip and Franc Carbó.

The German’s contract with the Citizens expires this June and his name has come up several times in connection with a move to Camp Nou.

Back in November last year, it was highly speculated that Gündoğan’s transfer was a January option for Barcelona.
