Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Pep Guardiola? That’s been a big topic filling the front pages lately. After the Swedish striker made his comments about the Manchester City coach, journalists were curious to see Guardiola’s reaction and they lived to see it!
Ibrahimovic’s catchphrases have entertained the world for many years. The first mutual meeting took place in the summer of 2009 in Barcelona, where he transferred from Inter for less than 70 million euros. A year later, however, he was already moving back to Milan, this time donning the jersey of rival AC.
The Swedish striker can thus be considered one of several failed transfers by Guardiola, if not the worst ever made by a Spanish coach. But he certainly learned his lesson afterwards.
A few years have passed and Guardiola is now at Manchester City, where Erling Haaland arrived in the summer and has shot up the Premier League in a style that is unparalleled.
Ibrahimovic was asked to comment on the Norwegian striker and he didn’t disappoint! When asked if he thinks Guardiola will help Haaland’s development, he replied
The Swedish striker didn’t have to wait long for an answer, but Guardiola was clearly prepared for the confrontation.
“He is right, absolutely right. In this team, my ego is above everyone else, above every player. I don’t like it when Erling scores three goals and all the highlights are all about him. I’m so jealous! He’s right, he knows me perfectly. Maybe he could write another book,” published the words of the Spanish coach by Goal.
While the 41-year-old Malmö native has been running more of a rehab stint now that he is treating his injured knee, Guardiola and Haaland are taking the Premier League by storm.
However, the Norwegian striker has also been sidelined due to injury, but he should be starting against Fulham this weekend.
In the league, meanwhile, his court passer Kevin De Bruyne, who decided the win at Leicester, has caught him off guard. Thanks to this, the Citizens are only two points behind Arsenal, who also now face a clash with Chelsea.
