Manchester City have had a phenomenal season. It’s won the treble. They’ve gone on to win the Premier League title, they’ve won the Champions League and the FA Cup. Pep Guardiola has done an outstanding job. The Citizens became only the second English team to do so.
The Spanish strategist himself won the treble for the second time as a coach. The first time was as coach of Barcelona. He now has 36 trophies to his name. He’s only 52 years old. If he wants to, he can still achieve a lot.
No wonder Guardiola is seen as one of the best coaches in history. Since the beginning of his coaching career, he has been gathering success, constantly improving his style of football, he can take almost every player to the next level, he is a great perfectionist and has no problem praising his opponents.
He himself has then more than once stated that he doesn’t consider himself the best coach, saying that if he led a team other than Manchester City, which doesn’t have the same capabilities, he would stop winning.
However, after winning the treble, the Citizens have not been completely successful this season. They are in fourth place in the Premier League and have won only one of their last five games. However, they are only six points behind first-placed Arsenal, which even after last season’s experience can be described as a hurdle that is not insurmountable. In Europe, however, they are 100 per cent.
Will Guardiola end with coaching after this season?
Pep Guardiola, in an interview with his former charge Gael Clichy, was asked if he had set his players another treble as a goal before the season. His response was telling.
“No, no. I think that would be a mistake. A treble? Let’s forget about it. If we win it again, I will end my career,” Goal quotes the Spanish coach’s response.
“It’s extremely difficult. How many incredible teams in England have done it? Only once Sir Alex Ferguson and us last season. We’ll see. It’s a big challenge. September, October, November and thinking about titles? Forget it, it’s a big mistake,” he added.
