Guardiola on his way out of Leipzig? No, the German club intends to keep him. How long do the bidders have to wait?
RB Leipzig can rejoice at what a gem they have in their team. Joško Gvardiol made a huge impression on the football world at the World Cup in a Croatia jersey and it is no wonder that he is in great demand. However, a sale is out of the question.
RB Leipzig can rejoice at what a gem they have in their team. Joško Gvardiol made a huge impression on the football world at the World Cup in a Croatia jersey and it is no wonder that there is a lot of interest in him. However, a sale is out of the question.
It was the summer of 2021 when RB Leipzig decided to invest almost 19 million euros in the youngster from Dinamo Zagreb. He had a clear place in the Croatian side, he had impressed in the European Cups and the Saxon club believed he was a huge talent.
A year and a half later, it seems clear that Leipzig were not wrong. Joško Gvardiol has quickly developed into a stable player in the starting line-up, not only at the club but also in the Croatian national team.
At the World Cup in Qatar he put in a fantastic performance and was one of the best players at the tournament. At least among the defenders. He helped his country to a beautiful third place.
His current value, according to Transfermarkt, stands at €75 million and it is certain that if Leipzig want to sell him, they will make a considerable profit. But there are no plans to do so.
At least that’s what RB sporting director Max Eberl claims. This is despite the fact that not only London Chelsea are interested in the player, but reportedly Real Madrid as well.
“I am in contact with his agency. We are having very open and transparent talks. Our position is clear and so is our opinion. There is no way he will leave in the winter. Our intention is not even to let him go in the summer of 2024,” Bulinews quotes Eberl as saying.
Eberl therefore claims that Leipzig is counting on Guardiola for at least a year and a half. Moreover, time is not pressing him, as the Croatian is under contract at the club until the summer of 2027. This puts Leipzig in a very advantageous position.
However, the question is what will be going on in the mind of the soon to be 21-year-old defender. Interest from teams with a history, such as Real Madrid, can certainly influence him.
