Guardiola is not wrapping up the season yet, Amorim had a great home send-off
Manchester City suffered a heavy and heavy 1:4 defeat to Sporting Lisbon in Tuesday’s Champions League match. Pep Guardiola, however, is not packing up his season even after three losses in a row and wants to continue to fight for trophies despite a large squad. On the other hand, Ruben Amorim had a great farewell to the home fans and will join their rivals from the red part of Manchester on November 11.
Manchester City suffered a heavy and heavy 1:4 defeat to Sporting Lisbon in Tuesday’s Champions League match. However, Pep Guardiola is not packing up the season even after three losses in a row, and wants to continue to fight for trophies despite a large squad. On the other hand, Ruben Amorim had a great farewell to the home fans and will join their rivals from the red part of Manchester on November 11.
Neither Guardiola nor Bernardo are giving up anything
“We knew it would be a difficult season. I actually like it, I want to face the challenges together with my players,” the Spanish strategist began his post-match conference. The Citizens are having a difficult season, mainly due to a large squad that counts up to 9 players from the squad. Kevin De Bruyne has stepped in for the first time in a while, but he is still not ready to play full minutes.
The Spaniard compares this season to the very first one he experienced on the Citizens bench. Back then, Manchester City dropped all the way down to 5th in the Premier League during the month of January, drawing a five-goal debacle with Everton. Then came a run of 17 games without defeat and the Etihad Stadium side finished in the final 3rd place.
“I will try to find an explanation for this result, but sometimes there is no explanation and you just have to accept it. In sport, and in life. Sometimes you just have bad moments, we have to face them. But we’re not wrapping up the season by any means, we’re going to fight until the end,” Guardiola added to his team’s courage.
“I really can’t explain it. In 7 and a half years here, I don’t remember us losing 3 games in a row. We are in a dark place,” Bernardo Silva describes the current events in the team. The Portuguese is one of the few players who have not suffered any injuries yet this season, and therefore one of the busiest.
According to the Portuguese, the team needs to wake up immediately or risk losing their chances of winning a trophy in the domestic competition. The Citizens can only take solace in the fact that they are in a good position in the Premier League, but also in the Champions League, and therefore a loss at Sporting’s ground may not bother them too much.
Amorim had a great farewell
The Portuguese coach has coached exactly 230 games in his role as head coach of Sporting Lisbon. It was his last home game against Manchester City as the Lisbon side travel to Braga this weekend. “Today’s win is a big moment for everyone. Of course, the result helped me to say goodbye to the fans,” Amorim searched in vain for words.
However, the Portuguese coach said the big win was not his finest moment on the Sporting bench. His best moment was the 0:5 defeat to Manchester City in 2022, after which the entire stadium applauded the team. “Some may not believe me, but it’s true,” the future Manchester United coach ended his interview.
