Pep Guardiola is known in the football world for his modern concept of football. Wherever he has come, he has celebrated success, albeit with different styles. This makes Guardiola one of the best coaches in football history.
It is no wonder that the players Guardiola manages always do very well in the statistics. However, as the Spanish coach himself states, statistics are not a good measure of a player’s performance.
According to Tribuna , he said this in response to a query about the form of Jack Grealish, who cost Manchester City a lot of money, but doesn’t stand out in the stats.
Guradiola, however, did not want to hear anything about the poor form of his player. “We always talk about statistics. Footballers today play only for statistics and that is the biggest mistake in football today,” Pep Guardiola said when asked.
The coach then elaborated on his thoughts. “Statistics are just for information. But there are players who make the team good and don’t score points. Players only care about how many goals they score and how many assists they make. That’s the problem,” mused the fifty-one-year-old coach.
In the end, Guardiola concluded that it always depends on the performance of the whole team. Only when every player performs 100% can the team win.
