Virtually all the big names on the men’s tennis scene will be in Toronto, Canada. Among them, Croatia’s Coric is among the seeded players. The twenty-six-year-old tennis player is ranked fifteenth in the ATP rankings. His opponent will be Grigor Dimitrov (32 years old, 20th in the ATP ranking)
This year’s performances of both tennis players
On the Croatian’s side, his results in April are the most interesting. In the clay part of the season he sailed through to the semifinals of the Masters in Barcelona, where he finished on the racket of the later champion Alcaraz. Two weeks later he made it to the quarter-finals in Rome, where he fell to Tsitsipas.
His results on the hard surface are much weaker. The Croatian’s record here is even negative. Namely, six wins and seven defeats.
The Bulgarian tennis player has a great record this year. Out of 42 matches, he’s walked away a winner 28 times. He played the semi-finals in Rotterdam and the final in Geneva. Each time on a different surface. But Dimitrov’s best performance came at Wimbledon.
At the All England Club, among other things, he passed the American Tiafoe smoothly and found his opponent in the eighth round after a great fight with Holger Run. He won the first set against the young Dane, but the match was decided by two losses in the shortened games.
Current form and matches
Both tennis players have had a successful week. Dimitrov finished among the top four players in Washington. At this stage, he was no match for the Briton Evans (30th in the ATP rankings). He has won ten of his last thirteen matches.
Also, Coric reached the semi-finals last week. In his case at the event in Los Cabos, Mexico. His journey there was ended again by the Greek Tsitsipas. Čorić’s results since the end of the clay court season have been rather lacklustre. Out of ten matches, the Croatian won five.
The results of their duels speak for Dimitrov. He won three of the matches he played. Čorić has won one. This year both tennis players met once, on the hard surface in Kooyong the Bulgarian won twice 7: 6.
Finally..
Both tennis players have had a rather difficult and successful week. Their results on hard surfaces and their form in recent months favour Dimitrov. Also, the balance of their matches speaks for the more experienced tennis player.
