Mason Greenwood is going back to football. Since January 2022, the England superstar has not kicked a ball due to a police investigation. He’s now gone on loan from Manchester United to Getafe, where they are delighted with him.

In January 2022, Mason Greenwood was at his peak. He was regarded as one of the club’s top academy talents, he had netted 18 goals for Manchester United’s A-League side in the 2021/22 season, 12 in the following one, and 6 in the current one, plus two assists after halfway through the season.

He made the England national team and was credited with a big future. But that was quickly extinguished. He was arrested by the police for physical violence against his girlfriend, who had videotapes and photos of his injuries as evidence.

The whole situation dragged on for a year and a half, until finally Greenwood’s girlfriend dropped the charges, the two got back together and are even expecting a child.

Manchester United then tested the waters with its uncertain statement about whether it would be able to bring him back to the A-League. But the reaction was very negative, with the women’s team reportedly threatening to strike and several fans rioting.

The Red Devils preferred not to bring Greenwood back to the team. Instead, they found him a guest spot in Spain, at Getafe. In the suburbs of Madrid, they have arranged a luxury villa for him and continue to pay most of his salary.

And Getafe fans are delighted with Greenwood. Even when the club officially announced his arrival, several of them came right outside the stadium to celebrate.

On Tuesday morning, Greenwood joined in training with the team, at the main stadium, the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, which was also open to the fans.

They made their affection for Greenwood very clear. They celebrated his every touch of the ball with joyful shouts, even when he scored afterwards during one-on-one duels.

In addition, many fans in the comments referred to Greenwood as the biggest signing in the club’s history. So while the 21-year-old has not been accepted in England after his scandal, it seems he will have more peace of mind in Spain.
