Mason Greenwood finally found a new club after being rescued at the last minute by Getafe, where he is transferring on a one-year loan. The English talent will finally get on the pitch after a year and a half. But what has the long break done to his development?
Greenwood had an incredibly well-paced career when he was playing regularly for Manchester United. But then came the shock and the English talent had the worst months of his life.
That seems to be over now, as after much speculation about him going to Turkey or Saudi Arabia, he has signed for Getafe, for whom this should be a huge plus. Moreover, the Spanish club will only pay part of his salary.
“This transfer will allow Greenwood to restart his career outside Manchester United. The club will continue to provide support to Mason and his family during this transition period,” reads the official statement from the Manchester club.
Although Greenwood last played in the 2021/22 season and only until February. At such a young age, the 181 cm tall striker had already played 129 games for the Red Devils and scored 35 goals. He even made his debut for the England national team.
So the only question is how much the whole scandal and the fact that he hasn’t played for several months will affect Greenwood, which is very devastating at his age.
Still, we are talking about an excellent player who was very goal-scoring in his time with Manchester United. And that is something that will clearly come in handy for Getafe, as they only scored 3 fewer goals last league season.
Getafe will face Real Madrid this Saturday, but whether they will start is uncertain. After that, however, we have the national break and Greenwood’s La Liga debut should 99% possibly come in the home game against Osasuna.
