Great teams that are languishing in the current season. Chelsea and Manchester United are not missing
The current season is entering its final phase. Some teams have played well in their domestic competitions with the prospect of winning the title or European Cups. Others, however, are still finding their face and struggling with themselves as the season is not going as planned and they are far behind expectations.
The current season is entering its final phase. Some teams have played well in their domestic competitions with the prospect of winning the title or European Cups. Others, however, are still finding their face and struggling with themselves as the season is not going as planned and they are far behind expectations.
Chelsea
More than enough is still being said about the London team. For the 2nd season in a row, they are outside the standings that guarantee European Cups. Chelsea are currently in 11th place in the Premier League and are looking at the places guaranteeing at least the Conference League with 8 points. A small consolation for the fans may be at least a final appearance in the Carabao Cup.
Newcastle
Last season was a dream come true. After years of misery and suffering, the fans could once again watch their team with joy. 4th place and the associated participation in the Champions League. This season, however, is not so glorious. An unfortunate end in 4th place in the Champions League group and a provisional 10th place in the Premier League, just a place above Chelsea.
Newcastle suffered from a narrow squad during the autumn season. Injuries to several key players who were not quality replacements meant the end of the Champions League and great misery in the domestic competition. In the spring season, the mainstays have come together and the team is starting to hit the ground running again. However, with the prospect of a European place, it looks like the same as Chelsea, so not much.
Manchester United
A lot has been written about the team from Manchester. That Hague squad has been hamstrung by injuries since the start of the season or the team has struggled with fluctuations in form. Above all, the poor state of Marcus Rashford is evident, who, although he scores a goal here and there, is a long way behind last season. With a loss of 6 points to 5. Tottenham and 9 points to 4. Aston Villa, United can still challenge for the top 4.
Napoli
The first team on the list that isn’t from the Premier League. Last season was fantastic by Napoli, decorated with a domestic title. They managed to keep Viktor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in the squad over the summer. However, the start of the season could already indicate that this year Napoli is fighting more with itself. The forwards were not in great form, and this in particular was becoming fatal to the team.
The current 7th place in Serie A is far beyond expectations, dropping out in the Champions League eighth-finals is also disappointing, mainly because of the play shown. Napoli are 6 points behind 5th place and 9 points behind 4th place, so it may not be as much of a disaster as if Osimhen and co had finished in the current 7th place.
Sevilla
The Spanish team has not had a good start to the season at all. After a few rounds, Sevilla were at the bottom of the Spanish LaLiga. The poor form was also reflected in the Champions League group stage, where Sevilla finished in last place with just 2 points. In a group with Arsenal, Lens and PSV, a team of Sevilla’s quality should certainly do better.
After the signing of the experienced Sergio Ramos, the team has woken up a bit and at least partially improved their performance. However, the current 16th place is certainly far behind expectations, in the last round Sevilla even lost 1:2 to Celta Vigo, who are behind Sevilla in the table. The whole team should be on guard until the end of the season, as they are only 6 points ahead of the relegation places, relegation would be a disaster.
