Coach Radek Bejbl’s team has completed the first match of the second stage of the qualification and can rejoice in an important victory. Our nineteen team defeated Croatia 3:1 thanks to goals by Ambrose, Šín and Šmiga.
In the first stage of the qualification, the Czechs were second in the group of four behind Greece and ahead of Switzerland and Andorra. They are currently fighting in the second phase, where they have a strong trio of Croatia, Portugal and Sweden as opponents.
And it was the first match against the Croats that the Czechs managed to do well. Players like Ondřej Kričfaluši, Samuel Grygar, Matěj Šín and Lukáš Ambros were in the starting line-up and it showed in their performance.
However, the first goal of the match was scored by the Croats, for whom defender Matej Matič scored. The equaliser came shortly afterwards and was scored by a beautiful left-footed shot by captain Ambros, who had already made his Bundesliga debut for Wolfsburg.
We had to wait until the second half for the second goal, when Baník Ostrava’s Šín scored. Daniel Šmiga, who was substituted at the end of the game, adjusted the score to 3:1, when Tom Slončík, known from the league, won the ball for him.
Coach Radek Bejbl could be more than satisfied, as the Czechs got closer to their dream promotion with this win. However, there is still a lot of work ahead of his team.
Only the first team qualifies for the final tournament, so they need to score points in the next matches. On Saturday at 6pm we play the favourite from Portugal, three days after that we play the Swedish team.
Both matches will be played from 18:00, the match between the two countries will take place today at 19:00.
