Great Sinner! How many matches in a row has the Italian won and which two champions are grinding their teeth to end his streak?
Is the Jannik Sinner era coming? Quite possibly. The last few months suggest so, and the triumph at the Australian Open has only boosted confidence in him. How long has it been since the Italian lost and who will threaten his great streak in the coming days? He’ll face a tough test in Rotterdam.

Sinner winner
Italian Jannik Sinner lost his last match at the Tournament of Champions. In the final of this event to be precise. His opponent at this November event was none less than Novak Djokovic.
Since then, the 22-year-old has walked off the court a winner every time. During the final Davis Cup tournament, he supported the Italian team by winning every match. Incidentally, he repaid Djokovic’s defeat there.
And he took on the world number one again at the Australian Open. In the semi-final Sinner beat Djokovic 3:1 in sets and after turning the tide in the final duel against Medvedev won his first Grand Slam in Melbourne.
After a short break, the current world No. 4 is now playing in Rotterdam. He plays the role of the tournament’s number one in a well-attended event and, according to his own words, feels very comfortable here.
And nothing changed that in the first round, where the Italian defeated the home team’s Botice Van De Zandschulp without losing a set. The bottom line is that the South Tyrolean native has now won eleven matches in a row.
Competition in Rotterdam
The tournament in the second largest city in the Netherlands brought together some very good company. Experienced Bulgarian Dimitrov or representatives of the predatory youth like Rune or de Minaur are out of the question for Sinner until the very end of the tournament.
The Italian tennis player’s immediate challenges will be other names. But they will be no less interesting. The Frenchman Monfils will challenge the current king of the season in the eighth round. He is a two-time champion in Rotterdam in 2019 and 2020.
And the next possible opponent is already known. Canadian Raonic is so far making his way through the ATP 500 tournament without losing a set – and his serve.
Matches against him, if his health holds, are definitely no walk in the park. Especially on a hard surface. Let’s see how Sinner deals with these trials.
