At Silverstone we were treated to a beautiful and very attractive spectacle. Until the last round there was a fight for the podium! A historic success was achieved by the Aprilia team, while Marc Márquez crashed on the first lap. So how did the British Grand Prix turn out?
The very first lap of the British Grand Prix seemed to foreshadow how the rest of the race would go. Indeed, we saw a huge number of battles on the race track.
Pol Espargaro did well to secure his first place, but his brother Aleix Espargaro, who races for Aprilia Racing, came in second. Both Suzuki riders made a great start, with Joan Mir in seventh and Alex Rins in eighth.
The legendary Valentino Rossi also jumped to sixth place in the standings. Marc Márquez and Jorge Martin collided at Turn 9. Márquez undercut Martin, which the Pramac Racing rider did not expect, and the two riders collided and crashed. Neither of them continued in the race afterwards.
On the third lap, Aleix Espargaro attacked for the lead, but was unable to take the race lead. However, Fabio Quartararo, who overtook Francesco Bagnaia and captured the third position for himself, caught the great speed and the race track.
Both LCR Honda riders also moved up a few positions in the opening laps, with Alex Márquez in tenth place at the end of the fourth circuit and his teammate Takaaki Nakagami in eleventh.
Quartararo and Aleix Espargaro fought a very close battle for second place. The French rider handled this battle better and came second. A lap later, he overtook Polo Espargaro.
Quartararo increased his lead over the next few laps, with the Suzuki Ecstar riders coming to the front. Rossi dropped significantly down the order over the following laps, with the #46 rider in 14th place at the end of lap 14.
Meanwhile, Rins had worked his way up to second ahead of Aleix Espargaro, with Quartararo already over 3.5 seconds off the lead. Bagnaia on the Ducati was also falling down the order. He was up to number 9 on lap 16.
But until the last lap we watched a tight battle for the podium, especially between Aleix Espargar and Jack Miller. The former managed to hold on to third position anyway, thanks to an ideal race track and flawless driving.
For the first time in its racing history, Aprilia achieved such a significant success – a podium finish! The race was clearly dominated by Quartararo on the Yamaha, with Rins on the Suzuki crossing the line second.
1. Quartararo, 2. Rins, 3. Aleix Espargaro, 4. Miller, 5. Pol Espargaro, 6. Binder, 7. Lecuona, 8. Alex Márquez, 9. Mir, 10. Petrucci, 11. Zarco, 12. Bastianini, 13. Nakagami, 14. Bagnaia, 15. Marini, 16. Oliveira, 17.
Bagnaia had an obvious technical problem on his Ducati bike, while Rossi had a total failure in this race. He lost ten positions compared to the start and didn’t score a single point in the British Grand Prix. A great result was recorded by Iker Lecuona, who is fighting for a place in the MotoGP royal cubature for next year.
