Great qualifying in Imola! Who took pole position and what are the overall results?
Qualifying for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix is now a thing of the past. And it was a thrilling qualifying! Who took pole position and what can we expect from tomorrow’s gala?
Qualifying for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix is now a thing of the past. And it was a thrilling qualifying! Who took pole position and what can we expect from tomorrow’s gala?
The first part of qualifying brought a big accident for Yuki Tsunoda, who failed to control his Alpha Tauri monoposto at turn 15, crashing into the wall and devastating the rear of his car!
Both Haas monoposts did not make it to the second part of qualifying. The media and fan criticised Nikita Mazepin finished in nineteenth position, almost half a second behind his teammate Mick Schumacher!
The remaining two non-advancing places belong to Alfa Romeo Orlen Racing. Antonio Giovinazzi will start tomorrow’s race seventeenth behind his teammate Kimi Räikkönen.
The second part of qualifying in particular produced some ruthless results. Fernando Alonso in the Alpine F1 car was only fifteenth at the start, while Canadian Nicholas Latifi in the Williams was in a respectable position. His teammate George Russell will start from position number twelve.
Sebastian Vettel will start among these Williams drivers. Q2 (qualifying, second part – author’s note) was not at all good for him.
Despite his performance so far this race weekend, Carlos Sainz’s eleventh place is a big surprise! With his Ferrari, he lost six tenths of a second to Lance Stroll’s tenth place.
The final part of qualifying was absolutely grandiose. The ten advancing drivers from the previous two sessions battled for pole position in Q3. Tenth place at the start belonged to Lance Stroll, who in his Aston Martin lost about one and a half seconds to ninth place Esteban Ocon!
Eighth position belongs to Valtteri Bottas. The Finnish driver, however, did not have a good Q3 at all and will have a very difficult position going into tomorrow’s Grand Prix. Seventh will be Lando Norris in the McLaren.
The young Briton set a time that took him up to second on the grid, but due to exceeding the track limits, this fantastic time was wiped out.
Sixth place at the start belongs to the second McLaren, owned by Daniel Ricciardo. Once again, an amazing qualifying performance from Pierre Gasly in the Alpha Tauri. Fourth place at the start goes to Charles Leclerc, who has been putting in some truly great performances throughout the race weekend in his Ferrari.
Third place in qualifying went to Max Verstappen. He was beaten by his teammate Sergio Pérez and Red Bull has a great starting position for Sunday’s Grand Prix! Pole position goes to Lewis Hamilton. However, based on his words in the interview afterwards, he’s worked up quite a sweat.
With the grid layout, we’re going to have a huge battle tomorrow! So we have a lot to look forward to, with the start of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix scheduled for 15:00.
