The Octagon will have to look for a new heavyweight king. Reigning champion Martin Buday has earned a contract in the UFC, and organization boss Dana White was thrilled with his performance.

Martin Buday was given the opportunity to fight for a contract in the UFC when he took part in Dana White’s Contender Series show, where the boss of the organization is looking for new stars.

In the cage, he was opposed by Lorenzo Hood, whose stats were quite respectable. All 12 of his wins have come by first-round KO. Moreover, the Slovakian fighter was vastly underestimated.

Everything turned out as it should, but it was not without complications. Buday came into the fight great, he landed the first significant punch, however, he hit the American in the eye with his fist and the referee stopped the fight for a while thinking it was a finger jab to the face.

The pause helped the American adjust to the pace of the fight, Hood tried to be dominant, however Buday showed great experience and handled the tough moments, he also showed a really hard chin.

However, as the end of the first round approached, Buday was able to finish the fight. After a series of hard punches to the face, the Slovakian managed to hit Hood in the head and with a knee, which was the final one.

And what did the UFC boss say? He didn’t hide his excitement. “I hate to say it, but I’m glad the referee messed up with the eye-poke. It gave us a chance to see more from Martin. If that hadn’t happened, the game would have ended right there.”

“Martin took some hard shots to the chin, but he got out of them nicely. He’s big, strong and tough. He’s got a 9:1 record and he’s only 29 years old. He’s at the top, and at heavyweight,” White added his comments.

Slovakia now has two representatives in the UFC. Buday will complement Ludovit Klein, who will soon face his first fight after his first loss in the organization.
