Excellent news from overseas! Jiri Prochazka could fight for the UFC welterweight title later this year. Of course, there’s a catch.
First Aleksandar Rakic could have had the honour, but when Jiri Procházka knocked out Dominick Reyes in a fantastic fight, the first mentioned fighter was somehow forgotten.
Immediately the talk started that his next fight would be for the title. And it may very well be. But there’s a catch. One of the participants in the title fight has to get hurt.
Jan Blachowicz will defend his belt against veteran Glover Teixeira and the Moravian fighter is the official replacement.
So he will fly to Abu Dhabi, he will have to make weight and if one of the fighters is unable to start, the native of South Moravia will replace him and fight for the title.
Of course, it won’t be easy. Because Procházka will have to prepare for not just one, but two different opponents, and he may do all of this for nothing. He may not get a crack at him after all.
Nevertheless, it’s a great indication that Prochazka is indeed being counted on as an upcoming title contender.
If the Moravian brawler doesn’t get a title shot now, he’ll likely get into action in the first half of the upcoming year. However, everything is still subject to change.
