Marie Bouzková is the only Czech representative who can still think about the title from Guadalajara, Mexico. The 24-year-old will face Maria Sakkari on Saturday night and the WTA Elite Trophy is also on the line.
Tennis player Bouzkova is having a very successful season. The 24-year-old Czech has already won 41 competitive matches, with only twelve losses. She even won the Livesport Prague Open played in July.
At the tournament in Guadalajara, which is the last one for most players in the 2022 calendar year, she took on compatriot Tereza Martincova in the first round. Bouzkova won without much trouble after 6::2 and 7::5 sets.
In the second round, she faced Camila Osorio, whom she defeated with an even clearer result, allowing her opponent only four games.
However, the Czech tennis player had to turn away eight break point opportunities during the match.
In the eighth round, she faced Russia’s Liudmila Samsonova, currently the 22nd player in the WTA rankings. Although the native of Prague received a canary in the first set, she improved her performance rapidly and dominated the remaining two sets 7:5 and 6:3.
In the quarter-finals another Russian tennis player was waiting for her, this time Anna Kalinskaya. However, she had to abandon the match after less than half an hour due to health problems with an unfavourable score of 2::5. She will play Maria Sakkari on Saturday night.
If she manages to dominate this event, she would secure her participation in the 2022 WTA Elite Trophy. Moreover, a ranking move awaits her, as it is already certain that she will move to at least 30th place in Monday’s edition of the rankings, which will be her career high.
