The doubles final at the prestigious Tournament of Champions will once again have a Czech-Moravian representation. For the second time in their careers, Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková made it to the final. Will they be successful in the repechage?
Barbora Krejčíková did not shine in the singles at the Champions Tournament, but she makes up for it in the doubles with Kateřina Siniaková. The Czech-Moravian pair advanced to the final.
In the semi-finals our tennis players defeated Nicole Melicharova and Demi Schuursova 3::6, 6::3 and 10::6 in a super tie-break.
It will be the second final for Krejcikova and Siniakova at the prestigious event hosted this year in Guadalajara, Mexico. Three years ago they were unsuccessful, but now they will want to reach for the winner’s trophy.
Standing in their way will be Xie Shuwei and Elise Mertens.
“I’m thrilled that we have come through. It’s amazing that you guys have been coming here all week and giving us energy. Thank you!” krejcikova was heard on the court after her win.
However, the match was not ideal from the start. “In the beginning we made too many mistakes and we had to improve. we fought and started to play more aggressively,” Siniakova said about the great turnaround.
The last trophy from the Tournament of Champions was brought to the Czech Republic by Andrea Sestini Hlaváčková, who won the doubles with Timea Babosová in 2017. On the positive side, Siniakova could end 2021 as the world number one in doubles.
