Jiri Lehecka confirmed at Wimbledon that 2023 is a breakthrough year for him. The tennis player from the Czech Republic made it through to the eighth round, where he fell to Daniil Medvedev due to health problems. However, a new career high awaits him on the ATP rankings.

Jiri Lehecka has been in great form since the beginning of the 2023 calendar year. He proved it at the Australian Open, where he reached the quarterfinals. He has successively defeated Coric, Eubanks, Norrie and Auger-Aliassime.

In February, he recorded another great result as he reached the semi-finals in Doha. He had 5 match balls against Murray, if he could use any of them he would play the final match against Medvedev.

He also improved his best result to date at the French Open. In fact, he took Struff in the first round, his first ever win at the top of the clay court season. In the second round, he fell to the American Giron.

At Wimbledon, the native of Czech republic definitely had higher expectations, and he managed to meet them. In the first two rounds he did not lose a single set, with Ofner and Cerundolo being quality opponents.

In the third round, it was his turn to face Paul. Lehecka took a 2:0 lead, but then lost two tiebreakers and went into the deciding fifth set. Lehečka took his opponent’s serve twice and won 6:2.

In the eighth round, the draw awarded Medvedev, the third player in the ATP ranking. Lehecka was the worse player on the court all the time, also due to an injury to his right leg, and at 4:6 and 2:6 he decided not to take any risks and called the match off.

Nevertheless, he is going to move up further in the ATP rankings. Before the start of the tournament he was ranked 37th, in the upcoming edition of the ranking he will be ranked 33rd. He will therefore once again consolidate his position as the best tennis player in the Czech Republic.
