Barbora Krejcikova hasn’t quite followed up on her incredible results from 2021 yet. She doesn’t have to be too sorry, though, because she will become the world number two in today’s edition of the WTA rankings. This will improve her career best.

Barbora Krejcikova was almost unbeatable in 2021. The triumphs in Strasbourg and Prague are proof of that. But that wasn’t all, as she also won all seven matches at the French Open in May – plus she and Katerina Siniakova dominated the doubles.

At Wimbledon, she reached the eighth round, and at the US Open she went one round further. Thanks to these results, she secured her place in the elite ten. Her reward was her first appearance at the prestigious Champions Tournament.

At the end of the year, however, the native of Ivančice was slowly running out of physical strength. That’s why she didn’t score a single victory in Guadalajara, Mexico, even though she gave both Garbine Muguruza and Karolina Pliskova a hard time.

At the beginning of 2022, the 26-year-old Czech Republic representative reached the final of the tournament in Sydney. However, she did not find a recipe for Paula Badosa – the match had to be decided by a third set tiebreak.

Then came the Australian Open, where she reached the quarter-finals, thus improving her personal best again. Then came a slight drop in form and the Tokyo Olympic gold medallist lost in two sets to Yastremska and Ostapenko.

However, thanks to Aryna Sabalenka’s deduction of 710 points, she will move up to the second position in today’s edition of the WTA rankings. On the other hand, Karolina Pliskova, who has not played a single match so far this year, is set to drop to eighth.

Krejcikova currently has 5,073 points. Only Australian Ashleigh Barty is better off. However, she has a comfortable lead of almost 3000 points at the top of the rankings and it will be very difficult to dethrone her anytime soon.
