Fans in the grandstands and on the TV screens watched a thrilling qualifying session on Saturday, with Zarco on the Prima Pramac Racing team’s motorcycle emerging as the winner.
The thirty-two-year-old French rider beat Spain’s Viñales by just 98 thousandths of a second at the end of Q2, giving him a final winning time of 1:57.767.
However, five other drivers came in under one minute and fifty-eight seconds. Zarco and Viñales will be joined at the start of the British Grand Prix by Jack Miller, who lost 66 thousandths of a second to second place.
The fourth fastest time was set by Quartararo on his Yamaha, who will be joined on the second row of the grid by Francesco Bagnaia and Aleix Espargaro. And what were their times? 1::57.938, 1::57.961 a 1::57.966.
In the above Twitter post you can see the overall and final standings for Saturday’s qualifying.
Both Suzuki riders will be in a less than ideal starting position going into Sunday’s race. Alex Rins qualified as high as eleventh, while Joan Mir will start from the twelfth starting slot.
In an interview with Ruik, the 2020 champion talked about how he was troubled by a front tyre at Silverstone last year. And it seems the Japanese team is losing performance this year as well.
Sunday’s British Grand Prix kicks off at 14:00. Last season’s winner here was Frenchman Quartararo, who is in a great position to repeat his feat.
