Jack Grealish is now officially a Manchester City player, where he wants to fight for all possible trophies. But the transfer was not easy for him, he even compared it to Lionel Messi’s departure from Barcelona.
Jack Grealish has had his first press conference as a Manchester City player. Apart from the new engagement, he also spoke about how hard it was for him to leave Aston Villa.
“It was tremendously difficult. Everyone saw Messi’s farewell to Barcelona. That’s exactly how I felt as well. I’ve been an Aston Villa fan since I was four years old, my whole family have been fans, I’ve played for Aston Villa since I was six years old, I will always have a relationship with them,” Grealish let slip.
Already the new Citizens star has admitted that it is time to take the next step. The England international has been dreaming of the Champions League and trophies, he could now see those.
“Manchester City is the most successful English club in the last 10 years. The time is right for a transfer. I came here to win and be successful,” Grealish is clear.
The Citizens paid the Birmingham outfit an astronomical £100 million, making Grealish the most expensive British footballer of all time. But the club’s new signing is not feeling the pressure. On the contrary.
He says it fills him with confidence as it is a compliment and proof of how much Guardiola already respects the former Aston Villa star.
“When a club spends that kind of money on you, it means they trust you and highly respect you. They see a lot of potential in you to work with. I hope to repay the amount as much as possible by winning trophies,” Grealish concluded his statement at the press conference.
