Manchester City and euphoria, Arsenal and disappointment. Nothing could describe Wednesday’s battle for the Premier League top spot more aptly. But it could have been very different. For the scorer of the winning goal, Jack Grealish, admitted that he almost got himself sent off unnecessarily.

Wednesday night offered some great football. In addition to the Champions League, the Premier League was also on the line as Arsenal and Manchester City battled it out for top spot. The duel was dominated by the Citizens 3:1 and after a long time they are in the lead.
Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland scored for Pep Guardiola’s side, while Bukayo Saka scored from the penalty spot for the Gunners.
But the key moment was Grealish’s goal. Firstly, because it was the winning one, but also because the English midfielder could have done something stupid that would have made the game unpleasant for his teammates.
“When I celebrated the goal, I wanted to take my jersey off. But luckily I realised I had a yellow card. It was extreme. It was a fantastic night for me. This is exactly what I wanted. To score during this game was extremely important and I’m thrilled,” Grealish admitted of almost getting sent off.
The English footballer admittedly doesn’t have the numbers that were expected of him. Nor is he a regular member of the starting eleven. As a result, he often faces exaggerated criticism, especially because of the amount of money the Citizens paid for him.
However, Grealish is a very useful player for Guardiola. Typologically, he does not have a similar footballer in his squad. Moreover, the former Aston Villa player has an added benefit even when he is not scoring goals or passing the ball.
“I don’t think we played any good. Arsenal played much better than us. I think they were the better team on the pitch,” Grealish added while assessing the match.
However, it must be mentioned that Manchester City is leading the league but with the same number of points and with Arsenal having an extra game to spare.
