Gonzalo Higuaín announced that he will say goodbye to football after finishing the rest of the year with Inter Miami. The Argentine striker will bring his colourful football career to a close. He has played for a number of famous clubs including Juventus, AC Milan, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Napoli.
“I feel that after the best career I could have had, football has given me a lot. A big thank you to everyone who has always believed in me… it’s time to say goodbye,” Higuaín announced in tears at a press conference.
He scored 361 goals across competitions in his prolific career. He has twice been player of the year for Juventus in the Italian Serie A, as well as winning the Europa League and being crowned champion several times in both Spanish and Italian competition.

There are two games left in the American top flight. The play-offs will be held in the top 14 teams (seven from each conference). Miami, playing in the Eastern Conference, is currently in sixth place, but sixth-placed Orlando and eighth-placed Columbus have the same number of points.
“I want to go out as a champion to earn my finish. I know there are two games left. I hope the fans fill the stadium because it will be important for us, ” Higuaín said.
“And after that, once we advance to the playoffs, it will be a completely different story. My special dream is to finish as champion with my teammates. It wouldbe the best gift I can give them for all the help during my bad periods this year, ” the Inter Miami forward added.
The 34-year-old has picked up his form especially in the last duels as he has scored 12 goals in the last fourteen matches and showed that he is still one of the dangerous players after his health problems in the first half of the season.
An MLS win would be the icing on the cake for the Argentine. The next two games will decide the playoffs, with Miami playing Orlando and Montreal.
