Twenty-seven-year-old Lukáš Zima tried for ten years to win a place in the first team of Genoa, but unfortunately without success. After the end of his contract, he will try to kick-start his career at Dutch second division club VVV Venlo.

The native of Hradec Kralove went to Italy at the age of 17 to try his luck and signed for Genoa.

In ten years on the Apennine Peninsula, he never played a competitive match for Genoa.

He completed several guest spells to gain playing time and experience of Italian football. He played in the lower competitions, where he wore the jerseys of Livorno, Venezia, Mantova, Reggiana and also, of course, played for Genoa in the Primavera.

Now the former Slavia goalkeeper has decided to leave the Apennine Peninsula. He will try his luck at the Dutch second division side VVV Venlo, who were relegated from the Eredivisie last season.

“I know VVV Venlo as a club that played regularly in the Eredivisie. I followed the club’s results last season, not least because of the performances of Georgios Giakoumakis,” Zima was quoted as saying.

“When I received an offer from the club, I was surprised. I’m looking forward to this opportunity and I will try to help my return to the Eredivisie,” the goalkeeper added about his new position.
