Seven-goal game between Brentford and Leeds United in the 6th round of the Premier League. The central hero of the match was the home team’s striker Ivan Toney, who scored a hat-trick.
In the 6th round of the Premier League, Leeds came to the Community Stadium. The duel promised to be an attractive spectacle, as both teams are doing quite well at the beginning of the season, and are keeping in the top half of the table.
Brentford crushed Manchester United 4:0, while Leeds got the better of Chelsea at home, the match ending 3:0.
Leeds had more possession of the ball, but it didn’t matter as Toney converted a penalty in the 30th minute.
The same player stood up 13 minutes later to take a free direct kick, which he perfectly cleared the cobwebs in the goal, which was defended by Ilan Meslier.
Brentford did not enjoy the two-goal lead for long, however, as Luis Sinisterra reduced the deficit in first-half stoppage time. The home side went into the box with a one-goal lead.
After the change of sides, the game continued in its usual way. In the 58th minute, the visitors’ defence, led by goalkeeper Meslier, misunderstood. Toney took full advantage of this and completed his hat-trick with a beautiful lob, putting Brentford two goals up again.
In the 64th minute, visiting coach Jesse March couldn’t hold his nerve and earned himself a red card. Leeds reduced the arrears in the 79th minute and the game was expected to be a drama until the end.
But that was not to be, as Bryan Mbeumo returned the lead to the home side almost immediately. In the second half, substitute Yoane Wissa made it 5-2.
So Brentford continue their successful start to the season, having only once tasted the bitterness of defeat. In the next round they will want to confirm this victory at Southampton.
