Jiri Prochazka has become a fan favourite in the UFC and Dana White
Jiri Prochazka came to the UFC in 2020 as the RIZIN champion. In his very first fight in the biggest MMA organization in the world, he landed the first KO of his career on Volkan Oezdemir and immediately became a favorite of promoter Dana White.
He demolished former title challenger Dominick Reyes in his second fight as well, finishing him with a hell of an elbow from a spinning back elbow. His third fight was a title shot, which he took full advantage of in a memorable war with Glover Teixeira, whom he “choked out” with seconds left in the fight.
Before their rematch, however, he seriously injured his shoulder and relinquished the championship belt. He is now in the rehabilitation phase and occasionally finds time in his busy schedule to visit various podcasts.
What does the Moravian samurai see as the reason for his success?
Recently, he was just a guest on a podcast on the Institute of Modern Nutrition YouTube channel. Here he answered a number of interesting questions about his MMA career, training and nutrition methods, and a number of them also came about his personal life.
A very interesting part in the interview then came when the former UFC champion reflected on what makes him unique as a fighter. “It’s no different than just going from the beginning to the end and not stopping,” Procházka explained.
“It’s good to take that winning initiative from the first step in the fight,” he said, seeing the essence as being fully focused on every moment during the fight. A gameplan is one thing, he said, but in such a dangerous sport it can fall apart like a house of cards at any moment. Even the opponent has a plan.
“The spirit of victory is very important,” he said. “Allowing your opponent to take unhelpful actions and preventing him from taking useful actions, ” he revealed his key to victory. Let’s hope he uses it when he gets back in the cage. If his recovery goes well, Dana White has promised him an immediate title fight, which is held by Jamahal Hill.
