The welterweight division is without a champion after Jiri Prochazka vacated the title due to injury. Magomed Ankalaev’s title fight with Jan Blachowicz, which ended in a draw, didn’t change that.
A month later, however, Glover Teixeira and Jamahal Hill would go on to fight for the title, with Teixeira being the last title holder before Procházka was stripped of it by the Moravian fighter. It was supposed to be a rematch, but Procházka was injured and Teixeira would work his way back to it with a win.
Hill was perceived by the media and experts as a weak opponent who doesn’t exactly deserve a title shot twice, but despite that the bookies slightly favour him. This of course tempts a clear desire to put their money on Teixeira.
The odds on the Brazilian to win are written at a high 1.88 and we can explain why it would be a sin not to take this chance. First of all, Teixeira is a much more experienced and even more complex fighter than Hill.
Hill has quality standup and a KO grenade, but so does Prochazka, whose bombs Teixeira has been able to handle. On the other hand, he got Prochazka in trouble himself in the stand-up, so Hill has a lot to look forward to.
Other than that, Teixeira is an excellent wrestler and is also capable in jiu-jitsu. After all, Prochazka was the first man in his long career to end it unexpectedly on a submission. If the Brazilian doesn’t want to take any risks against the American in the standup, he’ll calmly take the fight to the ground and control it.
Moreover, Teixeira has been in training for a long time, Hill has not. Of course, he can address any overtraining with the Brazilian, but he’s too experienced for that. Plus, he trains with puncher Alex Pereira, who could definitely help him tremendously in his preparation for Hill.
The only way Hill could beat Teixeira is by KO. Otherwise, everything is working against him and in favor of Teixeira, who has also shown that he can last all five rounds in great shape.
So it would be a sin not to take the odds on Teixeira to win. However, it may also be an interesting bet for him to win on a submission, or a bet on seeing more than 1.5 rounds of the fight.
