Paris Saint-Germain took on Lorient in the 33rd round of the French Ligue 1 and unexpectedly struggled in their final title chase at the Parc des Princes. Midfielder Achraf Hakimi had to go to the showers prematurely, but Kylian Mbappé’s unbelievable moment leveled the unfavorable course of the match.
Paris Saint-Germain had an eight-point lead at the top of the table in the top French football competition with six rounds to go in Ligue 1.
The star team is being chased by a pair of teams, Marseille and Lens, but it is believed that at least they will not miss out on the domestic league title.
In the 33rd round, Christophe Galtier’s team took on rivals from Lorient at home at the Parc des Princes, holding a comfortable table clash. Contrary to expectations, however, from the opening whistle the match became rather complicated for the star-studded home team.
Already in the 15th minute, visiting midfielder Enzo Le Fee got on the board with a beautiful shot under the crossbar of goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. Just five minutes later, Moroccan full-back Achraf Hakimi had to take an early shower for a second yellow card.
But the Parisians didn’t fold their arms even with ten men and the home side’s biggest star Kylian Mbappé provided an unprecedented equaliser. He took advantage of the inattentiveness of the visiting goalkeeper and scored an incredible goal to level the match.
The goalkeeper of the visiting team, in cooperation with the defence, sparked a dangerous action of Mbappé and got the ball in his hands. But then he unwisely dropped it on the ground in front of the French star, who sent the ball into the open net.
Although the visiting players demanded the goal to be annulled, everything was according to football regulations. Goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo had the ball in his possession and the referee did not interrupt play.
However, Lorient’s players did take advantage of the numerical advantage by the end of the first half and surprised with a 3-1 victory.
