Bundesliga
Girona rules the whole of Europe. But Leverkusen could be king. Can both teams keep up the killer pace until the end of the season?
If we were to create an imaginary table of all the teams from the top 5 European leagues, it would be dominated by Girona. It keeps both Spanish giants at bay. The king of this table, however, would most likely be Leverkusen in a tie.

Girona
The season before last, Girona returned to the Spanish top flight after three years. Few expected the Catalan side to be fighting for European cups. But that was indeed the case last season.
It’s even better now that Girona are in first place after 13 rounds played. It has a two-point lead over second-placed Real Madrid, four points over third-placed Barcelona and even six points over fourth-placed Atlético Madrid. You won’t even find a better team in Europe at the moment than the very team that was founded on 23 July 1930.
However, this modest team, with the smallest stadium in La Liga (Estadio Montilivi – 13 286), has solid support. 47% of the club is owned by the City Football Group, owners of the famous Manchester City.
If anyone is wondering what is behind its rise, read the article The Miracle of La Liga.
In any case, Girona is off to a great start. Many expect it to run out of breath soon. However, that’s what everyone thought of Leicester, who finally made it to the very end and dominated the Premier League. Why couldn’t Girona do the same?
Leverkusen
Although Leverkusen have only gained 31 points so far, they have played 11 games compared to Girona. Thus, it could theoretically get up to 37 points if it wins its next two games.
The team, which also includes Patrik Schick and Adam Hložek, who unfortunately have not made the starting lineup this season, is doing absolutely great.
Xabi Alonso’s charges have only failed to win on one occasion so far.
The team is loaded with great players who are pulling together. If they keep going game by game, the Bundesliga will see someone other than the Munich giants celebrate the league title for the first time in years.
Hopefully the two Czech representatives who are picking up minutes bit by bit will get more involved. Hložek has played 51 minutes so far and Schick only 60 seconds.
