- Aston Martin has confirmed the arrival of a brilliant and successful designer
- Adrian Newey will officially start working with the British team in March 2025
- He has signed a multi-year deal with Aston
Adrian Newey was the very man who made a significant, indeed significant, contribution to the dominance of the Red Bull Racing team in previous years. But the Austrian stable is currently undergoing changes, with the biggest one actually still to come.
As we reported in a previous episode on the Motorsportal channel, one of the reasons for Newey’s departure from Red Bull is internal struggles.
These started after the death of Dietrich Mateschitz, with negative news surrounding Christian Horner also circulating around the world. Newey, as Formula One’s design guru, then made a surprise statement that Red Bull was not going in the right direction.
A few months ago, the team then announced that Newey was leaving. Apparently, Red Bull has removed him from the development of the monopoly. Whether this has the immediate effect of the slump in form that Red Bull is currently experiencing is questionable.
The team also reportedly failed to respond to Max Verstappen’ s complaints early in the season pointing to the car’s weaknesses. From 2026, then, Red Bull will switch to a different engine supplier, namely Ford. In addition, important people have left the team, with Jonathan Wheatley also announcing his exit.
After the announcement of Newey’s departure, there was a lot of speculation about where he might be heading. At first it looked like Ferrari, but at the beginning of the summer trusted sources talked about a move to Aston Martin. And that’s now a reality, the British stable officially confirmed it on Monday lunchtime.
Aston Martin has officially announced Newey’s arrival
According to official reports, Newey has signed a multi-year deal at Aston Martin. While the team has not revealed any details, he is set to receive £30 million a year , according to the BBC. That’s roughly 900 million crowns in our currency, and the contract is said to be for five years.
“This is huge news. Adrian is the best in the world at what he does – he’s at the top of his game – and I’m extremely proud that he’s joining the Aston Martin team.
It’s the biggest story since the Aston Martin name returned to the sport and further proof of our ambition to build a Formula One team capable of challenging for world titles. As soon as Adrian was available, we knew we had to make his arrival happen. Our initial conversations confirmed that there was a shared desire to work together on a unique opportunity,” said Aston majority owner Lawrence Stroll at the press conference.
Newey another key man
“I am thrilled to be joining the Aston Martin team. Lawrence has inspired and impressed me immensely with the passion and commitment he brings to everything he is involved in.
Lawrence is determined to build a team that will be among the very best. He is the only majority owner of a team that is actively involved in the sport. His commitment is evident in the development of the new technology campus and wind tunnel at Silverstone, which are not only state-of-the-art but have a layout that creates a great environment in which to work,” said Newey, who will not only be the lead technical partner but also a shareholder in the team.
Newey becomes another key man for Aston Martin. The Canadian billionaire has brought into his stable the man who is the most successful designer in F1 history, with 12 Constructors’ Cup titles (6x Red Bull, 5x Williams, 1x McLaren) and 13 drivers’ championships to his name.
In addition to him, Andy Cowell will join Aston as a director from 1 October this year. He previously worked at Mercedes as head of the engine department. Dan Fallows has already joined from Red Bull in 2022, while Enrico Cardile will also join Aston from Ferrari next year.
