Germany is not quite shining at the home tournament yet, but they did manage to win their Group A. The Germans were able to beat Scotland 5:1 and then beat the Hungarians 2:0.
The last opponent was the strongest team, Switzerland. It already knew that it was sure to advance and played for the first place. This was not far off, as they led from the 28th minute.
The goal was scored by Bologna striker Dan Ndoye. For a long time, it seemed that the Swiss would go on to claim a valuable victory, but in the second set minute, hero Niclas Füllkrug managed to equalise.
The Borussia Dormund striker thus defended Germany’s unbeaten record and the valuable first place in the group. Moreover, it was his second goal of the tournament, making him the top scorer of the EURA together with three other players.
“It’s a great moment for us as a team, which can be decisive. It was not a knockout game. Normally we will not face any easy opponents. But if you want to become European champions, you have to beat the really good ones.
Denmark, Slovenia and Serbia in particular are always capable of outdoing themselves. But I think we have already shown what we are capable of at the tournament,” the Germany striker said after the match.
“The equalizer was a moment that can help us with everything in the tournament, the atmosphere in the team and also the euphoria in the country. It was a very good feeling and I was relieved that we could experience that joy as a team,” he added.
