Germany defeated Kazakhstan by 8:2. For the second time in a row, the Germans scored 8 goals. Thanks to this win, Germany is now back in the fight for the quarter-finals, which would have been a long way off in the event of a loss. The star of the game was John-Jason Peterka with a goal and three assists.

First period

Germany came into the game like big water. From the opening seconds, they locked Kazakhstan in their zone and scored the opening goal. Wojtek Stachowiak and Maksymilian Szuber fired several shots at Andrei Shutov in a matter of moments, and the puck was eventually put into the net by one of Kazakhstan’s defensemen.

In the middle of the 3rd minute, Parker Tuomie was charged between the circles and he shot under the top bar to increase the lead to 2:0. It was the first goal for the 28-year-old German forward at this year’s tournament. Germany took an early two-goal lead.

Kazakhstan was able to recover from the goals and got a power play thanks to Jonas Muller’s exclusion. On the power play, Yevgeni Rymarev came up with a great pass from behind the net to the front post, following Ondrej Kashe’s example, and Roman Starchenko had an easy task.

Second period

Germany started the second period just like the opening one, with a quick goal. After one minute and 11 seconds, John-Jason Peterka got to the puck on the left boards, denied three Kazakh players and scored the third goal for the German team with a shot over Shutov’s shoulder. Shutov was replaced in goal by Nikita Boyarkin.

When Leo Pfoederl won the puck in the offensive zone, he passed it to Lukas Reichel, who already knew what to do. At the halfway point of the game, Germany led 4:1 and was heading for three more points. In the rest of the period, Kazakhstan hit the bar twice, and it was like a church ringing behind Philip Grubauer.

In the 16th minute of the second period, the Germans again got a good combination in the offensive zone. After a series of short passes on the left side, Peterka crossed the play to Lukas Kaelble, who had no choice but to send the puck into the uncovered net.

Third period

Midway through the third period, Germany went on a power play, with Peterka pulling the action along the left boards. Close to the net, he decided to pass the puck through the crease and found the stick of Reichel, who scored his second goal of the game.

A few minutes later, Artyom Korolyov shot past Grubauer to make it 2-6. But then Frederik Tiffels scored shorthanded and added Germany’s seventh goal. Maximilian Kastner closed the scoring. Germany took an important 3 points.
