Georgia have had a successful 2022. They have progressed to Group B of the Nations League, having taken 16 points from six matches. It did not play in the first round of qualifying, but was ideally placed in a friendly against Mongolia (6: 1).
Norway held their own against Spain at the start of their participation journey, eventually falling 0: 3 with goals in the end. With stars Erling Haaland, Martin Odegaard and others, they will nevertheless clearly be looking to qualify.
Georgia’s key figures
The agile winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, author of 14 goals and 16 assists, is having the season of his life in Naples, Italy. It is his first year at the club. Giorgi Mamardashvili makes the number one goalkeeper for Spain’s Valencia.
Norway’s key figures
In the absence of Erling Haaland, the responsibility is on the shoulders of Martin Odegaard, scorer of ten goals and seven assists. Defensive midfielder Fredrik Aursnes is a regular for Benfica Lisbon, scoring once and assisting three times this season.
Georgia has not fared well against stronger opponents on paper. Counting only confrontations with teams that reached the last EURO or World Cup, it has won only one of its last 17 matches.
Moreover, Norway is defensively strong. Last week’s treble from the Spaniards was a rare one, the Northerners have only scored more than once in four of their last 19 games. And without Haaland, the team will need a solid defense.
Considering Georgia’s poor form against the favourites, the individual quality and form of Odegaard and the solid defence of the Norwegians, I think the visitors will grab an important three points on hot soil.
