A quarterfinal that few would have predicted before the tournament. Georgia will challenge Israel in the knockout stage of the Euro U21, and it is already a historic result for both teams. What to expect from the match and what to bet on?

Georgia breezed through the regular group without a single loss, drawing with both Belgium and the Netherlands after a win over Portugal, playing balanced football with all of their opponents. Five points in the final were enough to take first place.

Israel started with a promising draw with Germany, and after losing to England, played for a long time without scoring against the Czech Republic. However, a goal late in the game eventually put Jan Suchopárek’s selection ahead and a few days after the success of the twenty, a similar selection qualified for the knockout stage of the twenty-one.

Georgia’s key figures

Zuriko Davitashvili was the architect of the advance, contributing to the 1-1 draw with the Netherlands with a great slalom and a calm finish. Giorgi Mamardashvili, who is the number one in Spain’s Valencia, was magical between the three sticks.

Israel’s key figures

Even the visitors’ biggest star is making an impact, winger Oscar Gloukh has assisted on both of Israel’s goals so far in the tournament. Germany already know about the qualities of David Turgeman’s Dor, having bathed their defence a week ago and finishing sovereignly.

Georgia’s attack has been on a roll, netting seven goals in the past four games, while Portugal, Belgium, Netherlands and Cyprus have not been weak opponents. Its big advantage is that it has been productive despite few chances.

Israel, on the other hand, has struggled shooting, scoring just four goals in its past eight matches. For example against Ireland and Croatia it has been goalless. The last time it scored two goals was against San Marino with an amateur team.

Considering the stormy home environment, the excellent individual performances of the home players, and Israel’s struggling offense, I think Georgia will finish in the top four at home.
