The sixth round of Serie A continues on Thursday. Genoa will welcome the favourite from the capital on their soil, what to expect from the duel between the newcomer and Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma and what to bet on?
Genoa have made a strange start to the season as newcomers, so far they have only been taking points from the favourites. They beat Lazio Rome and drew with Napoli, but with four points they are just above the relegation zone. One point in particular.
AS Roma also have nothing to celebrate, the only win in five rounds is an exclamation point, a small positive is at least a triumph in the first round of the Europa League. But Jose Mourinho’s charges are in 14th place, three points behind the top seven.
Genoa’s key figures
The home side are led by Argentina reinforcement Mateo Retegui, this season he is on a 4+1 record, last year he netted 12 goals from the tip. More is expected from Icelandic winger Albert Gudmundsson, he has struck once and assisted once from the wing.
AS key figures
The away side have had reinforcement Romelu Lukaku playing with the team, with the Belgian tank now on three goals scored. Central midfielder Bryan Cristante is a member of the Italian national team’s wider squad, boasting a 1+3 record.
Betting tip
Genoa have struggled in attack since their promotion from Serie B, striking more than once in just one of the five rounds. Four hits means the fifth worst offensive performance in the league, plus a single point earned at home in two rounds.
AS, on the other hand, is surprisingly offensive by Mourinho’s standards. 12 hits and an average of 2.4 per round is the third best record in the competition; Empoli, for example, have been seeded seventh by the Romans. They have scored at least once in the last 15 games.
Considering the improving form of Lukaku, AS’s decent attack and, conversely, Genoa’s struggling offense and poor home form, it can be predicted that the Romans will win and start climbing the table.
Betting tip l AS Rome win
