Pablo Gavi, the Barcelona midfielder has had a really unpleasant less than a year. He was seriously injured in a EURO 2024 qualifying match against Georgia. He tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, prematurely ending his 2023/24 season. He had to undergo surgery at the end of November, which was successful. After 10 months of pain and recovery, it finally looks like he might finally make a slow return. Today he started training with the team after a long time.
- Gavi’s serious injury is slowly healing and everything is going according to plan so far
- First training session with the team in almost 10 months since the Georgia game
- An important member of the team despite not being able to play in the match
The Catalan big club’s morning training session revealed that the young midfielder Gavi did not train individually as he normally would after a long-term injury, but with the whole team.
The season has got off to a really exceptional start for the Spanish international. In 23 games he scored 4 goals and 1 assist. His performances were really top notch and above all his determination makes him really special.
The team is really everything to him and it shows in the matches. If someone leans into his teammate either physically or verbally it is always him that comes to show what his elbow is made of.
A beautiful proof of the above is how Gavi even when he can’t play he spends time with the team. During games, training and outside of football he tries to stick with the team at club and national team level.
Gavi ready to play?
Of course that doesn’t mean he will play the game against Girona this weekend. He’s not ready for that, but it’s great news for Hansi Flick.
It’s important to see that his return is imminent. Gavi is giving it his all for his recovery. He wants to be ready as soon as possible.
The Barcelona staff wants to be careful and they don’t want to risk any more injuries or, heaven forbid, a recovery. That could be absolutely catastrophic.
Barcelona have had a great start to the season and despite the lead they want to keep Gavigavi will definitely not be included in match practice for now at least.
