The final match of the WTA tournament in Doha will also have a Czech cast. Petra Kvitova will challenge Spain’s Muguruza, who is considered a slight favourite. Who will enjoy the trophy?
Garbiñe Muguruza is currently ranked 16th in the WTA rankings. If she manages to win on Saturday as well, she would be ahead of Poland’s Swiatek.
She has been performing well at the Doha tournament. The Spanish tennis player lost her only set against Sabalenka. She won her duels with Kudermetova and Sakkari 2-0. She advanced to the final without a fight due to an injury to Azarenka.
Thirty-year-old Petra Kvitova is even better off in the WTA rankings. The native of Bilovec rounds out the top ten and is the second highest seeded Czech.
The former world number two and two-time Wimbledon winner is slowly starting to get into her ideal form. On the courts in Doha, she took on Pavlyuchenkova, Kontaveit and Pegula. In all matches she won at least four games more than her opponent.
What to bet on? Although Muguruza is the odds-on favourite, I give Kvitova more chances to win. She has won the last four matches between them and this will be her third final appearance in Doha.
In all five meetings with Muguruza, the Czech player has won at least one set. The same can be said about the matches in 2021. You can bet on it at odds of 1.59.
The expected match is scheduled for 16:00. You will be able to watch it on O2 TV Tennis and RTVS2.
