AC Monza are promoted to Serie A for the first time in their history. This will be the third club from Milan in the Italian top flight, whose owners are very ambitious. Several big names are already linked to the club. Adriano Galliani, the club’s chairman, has spoken about possible signings and ambitions.
In the 2020/21 season, players such as Mario Balotelli and Kevin-Prince Boateng wore the Milan club’s jersey, but the club’s hopes for promotion were dashed in the play-offs, where Milan fell to Cittadella.
This year, Monza also made it to the playoffs, where in a tense final, played over 2 matches, they finally advanced over the team from the famous city of Pisa, after the results 1: 2 and 3: 4 after extra time.
The club is owned by Silvio Berlusconi, a former Prime Minister of Italy who also served as owner and president of AC Milan. When he took over Monza was playing Serie D, now it will look to the top competition for the first time in its history.
There was recent speculation that Andrea Belotti or Alessio Romagnoli could be the club’s new signings, but that speculation has died down for now. On Monday, club chairman Galliani spoke about possible reinforcements.
“We have managed to sign Ranocchia definitively, Cragno will undergo a medical and we hope to sign him soon. Pinamonti and Joao Pedro? It’s too difficult to get them because of the high cost,” he said in an interview with Radio Rai.
“The goal for the coming season is clearly to save them. It took us 110 years to get to Serie A, we don’t want to go back to Serie B right after 1 year. We hope to receive support from 16,000 fans, if we stay in the first league we will build a new stadium next season,” he said when asked about his ambitions for the upcoming season.
He concluded by adding that the games against AC Milan will be special for him and owner Berlusconi. They both worked there together for a long time.
