Gabon will play the last match of the Africa Cup of Nations group stage on Tuesday. Against Morocco, they will have to do without ailing mainstays Mario Lemina and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. What to expect from the match?

Gabon has a well played group. After beating Comoros, it drew with Ghana and needs a draw to be sure of progression. Despite a loss, there would be a good chance of progressing from third place in the table.

Morocco is already in the eighth round of the tournament, having beaten Ghana (1: 0) and Comoros (2: 0). They have not scored a single goal so far and only need to avoid losing on Tuesday to finish first in the group.

Gabon’s goals in the tournament have come from Ligue 1 winger Jim Allevinah and Qatari striker Aaron Boupendza. Ex-Spartan Guelor Kanga had a good performance and an assist in the match against Ghana.

Seli Amallah has been successful in the championship so far, contributing one goal and one assist to Morocco’s three goals. Zakaria Aboukhlal and Sofiane Boufal have one goal each.

Gabon have struggled in attack, scoring more than one goal in only one of their last six games. It will also be missing its biggest offensive weapon, Aubameyang, on Tuesday.

And Gabon will have an extremely difficult time against Morocco, as Hakimi and co. have kept a clean sheet in thirteen of their last fourteen games. That’s an impressive record.

Given Morocco’s excellent defensive performance, I think Gabon will lose without the two mainstays.
