Füllkrug to West Ham? Soucek and Coufal may be getting a new teammate, German marksman is one of the Hammers’ transfer targets

Niclas Füllkrug is still very likely to leave Borussia Dortmund in this transfer window. The German forward was previously wanted by the likes of AC Milan, but now there is speculation about a possible move to the Premier League. West Ham United have reportedly expressed an interest.

Who would have expected a few years ago that Niclas Füllkrug would make such a career out of his time in Germany. After all, he still couldn’t make it big at Werder, which is why he left for Nuremberg in 2016. He spent two years there before moving to Hannover.

He was already 23 years old at the time and it seemed that he would probably never look into one of the big clubs. His price tag when he moved to Hannover? Just two million euros.

In just his second season at Hannover, he was quite the scorer, scoring 14 times in 34 games. A year after that, however, it wasn’t much of a season from an individual point of view, but his return to Werder in July 2019 was key.

Although he only started eight league games in the 2019/20 season, he scored four goals in them. Next season? 19 Bundesliga games played, six goals. Not much, you’d think, but Füllkrug kicked it up a notch the following year.

Bremen played the 2021/22 season in the second league and Füllkrug took over as top scorer. The result? 33 games and 19 goals scored, a very respectable record, which helped Werder to return to the Bundesliga. A further 16 goals in the following season earned the now 31-year-old striker a loan spell at Dortmund.

Füllkrug to West Ham?

The Hannover native also made it to the German national team and thus to this year’s European Championship thanks to his stint at Borussia (43 competitive games, 15+10). Nowadays, we can say that Füllkrug’s long-term performance is such that he can move up in his career.

AC Milan have already shown interest in his services in this transfer window, but now there is speculation about a possible move to the Premier League.

Specifically, West Ham United, who are now led by Julen Lopetegui as head coach. However, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg and information from Sky Sports, Füllkrug himself is not interested in this transfer. But the fact remains that the Hammers have him on their radar as one of their first targets.
