With the example of Gareth Bale, you can see how you can easily turn your beloved footballer into enemy number one. The Welsh footballer has incurred some bad press in Madrid for his behaviour and has now lashed out at the Spanish media.
For those who are not up to date with the Bale situation, let’s recap what happened between him and Real Madrid. The speedy winger was beloved by the fans, scoring two winning goals in the Champions League final (2014, 2018), scoring quite a few goals overall, putting in excellent performances.
After Ronaldo’s departure in 2018, he was supposed to take over the leadership role, only his performances were pretty bad. He acted like he had no motivation, like he didn’t care about the result, he continued the same way the following season. Old coach Zinedine Zidane couldn’t watch it anymore, he stopped looking at the name on his back and simply benched Bale.
The Welsh footballer couldn’t take it and started making jokes. In the stands during the game he put a veil over his eyes instead of his mouth as if he didn’t care about the game, another time he was substituted again in the second half, so he packed up and went home. One time he wasn’t on the roster for a home game due to injury and instead of coming out to support his teammates, he took off for the golf course at game time.
“Wales, Golf, Madrid, in that order.” At Real Madrid he takes the biggest salary of any player, with over 15 million euros a month in his account. Los Blancos tried to get rid of him, but his agent said he would be on salary until the end of his contract and would just play golf.
The next split between Bale and the club came in the summer. New coach Carlo Ancelotti gave Bale a chance, he played the first three games of the season in the starting line-up and even scored once. Then he went to the national team reunion, where he played 90 minutes twice, but returned to Madrid injured.
Parasite Bale
He labored with the injury for two months and miraculously recovered just in time for the national break. He played a game against Belarus, returned to Madrid and, world wonder, got injured again. Since then he was sick again and didn’t play again until February. Then Ancelotti gave him a chance again, he played twice against Villarreal and PSG, after which he got injured again.
He recovered and Ancelotti wanted to give him a chance in El Clásico to replace the injured Benzema. But in the end Bale was missing from the nomination, officially because of a sore back. But according to behind-the-scenes reports, he just didn’t want to get injured before the national team meeting, so he refused to start.
So he couldn’t play on Sunday night due to injury, but he was training with Wales on Monday without any problems. This picture has angered everyone at Madrid, not only at the club, but also the fans and media who are fed up with Bale’s behaviour.
Spanish newspaper Marca has thus called Bale a parasite who only takes Real’s money and does no service in return.
However, the 32-year-old footballer didn’t let that get to him and responded in his own way. Bale helped Wales to advance past Austria with two goals in the barrage and shouted a derogatory insult at the Marca newspaper while celebrating.
In the post-match interview, he was logically asked if this message was directed to anyone in particular.
“I don’t have to say anything to anyone, it’s a waste of my time. It’s disgusting, they should be ashamed of themselves,” Bale told Marca in the post-match interview.
