Thursday’s Premier League showpiece, which pitted Manchester United and Chelsea against each other, ended in a goalless draw. However, Blues coach Thomas Tuchel is definitely not happy with the point. In his eyes, Chelsea deserved more than a mere draw.
The match between Manchester United and Chelsea promised a great spectacle. Both teams still have something to play for, they are fighting for participation in European competitions for next season. While Chelsea are likely to qualify for the Champions League, Manchester are hoping to maintain their position for Europa League qualification.
Chelsea had far more of the play in the match. They kept the ball more often, and got more scoring opportunities. They capitalized on one of them when Marcos Alonso scored in the 60th minute. At that point, it looked like the away team was going for the win.
But then came a quick response from the opposition. Two minutes later, Cristiano Ronaldo levelled the match, and the score remained tied until the end of the match. As reported by Tribuna, Thomas Tuchel was not too happy with the result.
“It frustrates me. We were strong on the ball and dominated the game. We had enough chances, but unfortunately we were not precise enough in the penalty area and did not deal with them well,” Tuchel said the reasons for the loss of points.
The Chelsea coach is also disappointed with the lead he did not hold. “When we got the lead, we threw it away a minute later and it was starting from the beginning,” the German coach added.
But Tuchel was not too critical of his team, soon praising them for a good performance. “I am very happy for our performance today. We played well and once again showed that we can play in tough games in big stadiums,” Tuchel concluded.
