Hockey marathon! 16 games, all 32 teams… this Frozen Frenzy will be worth it! All the players, coaches and fans of the NHL are in for a real treat on Tuesday night. And the main highlight of the day for Czech fans will be the duel between Pastrňák’s Boston and the Chicago Blackhawks, for whom Connor Bedard, the number one pick in this year’s draft, is playing.
To make matters worse, each duel will start at a different time! The first game between the Buffalo Sabres and the Montreal Canadiens will start at midnight CET on Tuesday, while the last one between the Las Vegas Golden Knights and the Philadelphia Flyers is scheduled for five in the morning. And in between, one opening bullpen after another every quarter hour.
Pasta vs. Bedard
At 2:30 a.m., most Czech and Canadian fans will come to their senses. The duel of the evening awaits them. David Pastrňák and his Boston Bruins will face the Chicago Blackhawks, a team that has been gripped by Bedard-mania this year.
The No. 1 pick in the last draft is attracting attention everywhere. Now, Connor Bedard will have another home game and he’ll be looking to build on his last one, when he scored his first goal on home ice.
But the Bruins can offer some enticing youth, too. Matthew, Poitras, who impressed enough during training camp this summer to earn a spot on the first team, shined in the last game. Now it helped that he could play next to Pastrnak!
“It’s crazy to be on the same court with a player of this caliber. I was very nervous. But he (Pastrnak) is a great and nice guy. He told me: “Don’t be nervous, just play hockey and have a great practice,” Poitras said of the summer camp and the experience with the Czech hockey player that gave him confidence for the current season.
A marathon that will be attended by all Czechs
And those fans who decide not to set their alarm for the Boston game can brew a strong coffee and take Wednesday off from work. They can watch Martin Nečas’ Carolina Hurricanes take to the ice at 1 a.m. to watch the Tampa Bay Lightnings. After that, pick Tomas Hertl and his San Jose Sharks.
They will definitely want to finally score, but they will not have an easy time on the ice of the Florida Panthers. And not to stop with the Czechs, the NHL’s most productive player and top scorer Alex DeBrincat will take the ice a quarter after 2 a.m. His Detroit Red Wings will face the Seattle Kraken.
Filip Chytil, the Czech centre of the New York Rangers, will ride the wave of his great performance against the Seattle Kraken (0+3) to the Calgary Flames. He is pulling the Arizona Coyotes thanks to great performances and is also attacking the top 10 goalies in the league.
