It seems almost unreal, but it really is! Theformer head of Ferrari’s Italian stable, Maurizio Arrivabene, is expected to be confirmed as the new CEO of Juventus Torino football in the coming days.
Maurizio Arrivabene, he is a very, very well known name in the world of Formula 1. In fact, Arrivabene is the former boss of the Ferrari stable, from 2014-2019. And it was the 64-year-old Italian who brought in four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel in 2015.
Under his leadership, Vettel fought for the world championship with Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, and the same stable itself fought Mercedes for the top spot in the Constructors’ Cup, especially so in 2017 and 2018.
Under his leadership, the Maranello-based stable finished second in the team standings three times, third once and as high as fourth in 2014. However, Arrivabene’s end at Ferrari in 2019 was by no means a surprising decision. Why?
For one thing, the stable boss had been at odds with then technical director Mattia Binotto since 2017, and the situation between the two became even more heated after the death of Sergio Marchionne, the former CEO of FIAT Chrysler Automobiles.
And it became so heated that the Ferrari stable itself paid the price. According to Autobilde, Arrivabene used his death to strengthen his influence and to control the budget of the technical department. This was also the reason why the technical development of the car deteriorated during the season.
Secondly, according to the Italian stable’s employees, Arrivabene ruled Ferrari with a rather fearful atmosphere for his job. Even towards the media, the Brescia-born Italian was very cold and arrogant. However, he was dismissed by the current president of Fiat and Exor, John Elkann, in the spring of 2019.
So now he is set to become CEO of Juventus Turin. Indeed, the Italian giant has the same majority shareholder as the Maranello stable, the Agnelli family. However, Arrivabene has been on the Juventus board since 2012, before finally becoming head of the Ferrari stable.
The Italian big club is now undergoing a restructuring of sorts, with Andrea Pirlo having already been removed as coach in recent days, and in his place we will see Massimiliano Allegri again. The club’s sporting director is also changing. Federico Cherubini is expected to take up this post.
Fabio Paratici has held the position until now. What other news will we see at the Italian club in the coming weeks? There is a big question mark hanging over that at the moment.
