Dream season. Bayer Leverkusen and everyone connected with the club, including the fans, are currently experiencing it. The German club is clearly going for its first ever championship title and is making a big name for itself in European football this season.
But in addition to that, Bayer is also one of the favourites to win the Europa League winners’ trophy. As they say in football, a lot of things have to fall into place for a club to even think about fighting for the league championship.
And that is exactly what has happened at Leverkusen. The club is healthy, its management knows very well what it is doing. The in-demand coach Xabi Alonso has then put together a squad that has what it takes to compete with the best clubs in Europe.
There are names on the team’s roster, but they stand out from the rest of the lineup. And one of those names is Jeremie Frimpong, for example, who is doing wonders on the right wing and his performance is steadily increasing. Could he be the star winger of the future? Well, why not?
The Dutch talent is still only twenty-three years old, but he is already one of the leading aspects of Leverkusen’s successful campaign across the Bundesliga. You could say it was only a matter of time before his exploits were noticed by Europe’s big clubs.
Frimpong has caught the eye of clubs in Manchester
Based on the latest reports, two big Manchester clubs, United and City, have their teeth set on the Dutch winger. The crucial fact regarding the potential transfer is that Frimpong has an exit clause in his contract worth £35 million (just under €41 million).
However, this can only be activated in the upcoming summer transfer window. Needless to say, Frimpong is under contract at Leverkusen until the end of June 2028, with his market value already at €50 million.
The Citizens specifically see him as a possible replacement for Kyle Walker. Pep Guardiola also sees him as a great acquisition in terms of substitutability in different positions. While Xabi Alonso primarily uses him as a winger, Frimpong can also play in the midfield if needed.
Moreover, the Amsterdam native spent more than a decade in Manchester City’s academy before moving to Celtic. United’s management, on the other hand, sees him as the ideal reinforcement in terms of age and asking price, and according to The Sun, it is the Red Devils’ scouts who have been monitoring him for a long time.
And purely in terms of statistics – Frimpong has appeared in 25 league games in the current season, in which he has recorded a record of 8+8. He added another three goals and three assists in the Europa League and the domestic cup.
