Friday’s Euro qualifying results: the show of the away teams. Three qualifiers are announced
While Thursday brought one surprise after another, Friday’s Euro 2024 qualification programme in Germany was as expected. And three giants have secured their qualification to the tournament.
While Thursday brought one surprise after another, Friday’s Euro 2024 qualification programme in Germany was as expected. And three giants have secured their qualification to the tournament.
In Group B, the visitors were twice victorious. Kylian Mbappé scored two goals in France’s 2-1 triumph over the Netherlands, then hit the crossbar. Ireland fell to Greece 0:2 in a tightly contested game at home.
France is already a certain qualifier, while the Dutch and Greeks will fight for second place. The Oranjes are three points worse off, but have a game in hand. Ireland and Gibraltar will no longer be in the running for direct promotion.
In Group F, the Austrians have paid the toll of underperformance. Against Belgium, they wasted several chances and fell 2: 3. In the clash of the outsiders, Azerbaijan won against Estonia 2: 0. The two visiting teams won here as well.
The Belgians are expected to qualify for the final tournament, but the Austrians are also close. They have a seven-point lead over the third-placed Swedes. The northerners have a game in hand. Azerbaijan and Gibraltar are not in contention.
Some great football in Portugal. In the first half, the Portuguese clearly dominated the Slovaks, but after the change of sides, the game evened out. Goals from David Hancock and Stanislav Lobotka kept the underdogs in the game until the end.
The final loss 2:3 is a good result. Slovakia’s 1:1 draw with Iceland and Luxembourg, which was born in the north of Europe, was good. Bosnia and Herzegovina confirmed their role as favourites, beating Liechtenstein 2:0.
The Portuguese celebrated their qualification to the tournament. The Slovaks have a two-point lead over Luxembourg and play a return match on Monday. Bosnia is four points behind the fourth-placed team.
